Learn to Sew Using Knit Fabrics for Beginners – Make your own Toaster Sweater
Learn to sew using stretch knit fabrics and make your own fashionable Sew House Seven Toaster Sweater. This pattern is very simple to sew, perfect for beginners and there are two different high neck options, to keep you toasty and warm.
Option 1: Is a close fitting sweatshirt with upright style turtleneck. It has raglan sleeves, a wide waistband, and long cuffs.
Option 2: Has a funnel/boats style neck. It is close fitting at the shoulders and flares out at the hem. It also has side splits and the front is slightly shorter than the back.
Sizes: To fit from bust size 31” (79cm) up to 58” (147cm).

Ability Level: Beginners
Course Duration:Saturday 11th November, 10am - 4pm with half an hour for lunch
You will learn:
- How to sew using knit fabrics using your regular sewing machine
- Get tips for sewing with stretch and knits
- How to choose your correct size and read your pattern
- Learn how to attach a neckline and cuffs for t-shirts and sweatshirts
- Gain the confidence to make more garments using stretch, knits and sweatshirt style fabrics
You will need to bring:
Tools needed:
- A sewing machine in good working order
- A basic sewing kit, including dressmaking scissors, small scissors, dressmakers’ pins, tape measure, seam ripper, hand sewing needles
- Ballpoint machine needles
Materials needed:
- Option 1: Fabric requirements are from 1 metre 60cm ( 1 ¾ yards), up to 2 metres (2 1/8 yards), according to your size and using 150cm wide fabric
- Option 2: Fabric requirements are from 1 metre 50cm (1 5/8 yards), up to 2 metres 30cm (2 ½ yards), according to your size and using 150cm wide fabric
-Suggested Fabrics are: Medium to heavy weight stretch fabrics with at least 20% stretch
-Thread to match your fabric. (Maraflex thread is recommended for sewing with stretch fabrics)

About your tutor:
Wendy is a bespoke dressmaker and costume maker. She studied fashion design and pattern cutting in London back in the 1970’s and also qualified in millinery. She started her career working for a London film and stage costumier, making costumes and has also worked in pattern cutting and size grading for a high street store. Since then she has been dressmaking and making stage costume, historical costume, bridal and prom wear. Her speciality is working with finer fabrics with focus on detail and fit.
