Challis (pronounced "shal-ee") is wool's answer to silk - incredibly lightweight, beautifully drapey, and with the most gorgeous fluid movement. Our Graphite Gingham features a classic two-tone grey check that's both timeless and thoroughly modern. The subtle contrast between the lighter and darker grey creates a sophisticated pattern that's never boring, yet versatile enough to work with almost anything in your wardrobe

Challis combines all the wonderful properties of wool - breathability, temperature regulation, and natural drape - but in the most refined, lightweight form imaginable. There's absolutely no scratchiness or itchiness whatsoever. In fact, it's so comfortable against the skin that many people are genuinely surprised to learn it's 100% wool.

Because challis is naturally wrinkle-resistant and travels beautifully, it's also fantastic for pieces you'll want to pack for trips or wear all day without fussing.

This fabric is ex-designer deadstock - leftover rolls sourced from high-end fashion houses and mills. Deadstock fabrics are a brilliant choice for the modern dressmaker: they reduce textile waste by putting surplus fabric to good use, while also giving you access to designer-quality cloth that isn’t available on the high street.
