Beginners' Learning Lingerie & Swimwear Sewing Techniques - Make the Iris Knickers!

This workshop is the perfect starting point for anyone wanting to learn how to make your own bras, knickers, and swimwear. You’ll learn techniques, tips, and tricks for sewing up lingerie and swimwear; starting off with how to measure correctly for bras, underwear, and swimwear as well as how to choose the right fabrics, trims, and components.

You’ll practice the basic stitches and techniques needed for sewing lingerie and swimwear, plus sewing in elastic, lace, and trims. You’ll then make a pair of Iris Knickers using the pattern by Tilly and the Buttons, putting to use the techniques you have learned.

The Iris Knickers sewing pattern has a combination of 36 different styles! So you can opt for either a high, mid, or low waistline and choose between a high leg, mid-level leg, or low leg line option.

Please Note: I made my first pair of Iris Knickers using cotton jersey (T-shirt weight) purchased from Truro Fabrics and would recommend this, to make your first pair on the day. You will also need a scrap of the main fabric/cotton jersey for the gusset. If using scuba, velvet or stretch mesh, you are recommended to have a walking foot for your sewing machine.

- Narrow stretch lace between 20-40mm wide or fold over elastic 15-20mm wide. See pattern details for requirements according to size.

- Thread to match your fabric. We suggest Maraflex when sewing with stretch!
